Jebolan di benteng ini konon diakibatkan anak Panembahan Senopati; Raden Mas Rangga yang dihempas oleh ayahnya hingga menjebol dinding karena kesombongannya.
 Cepuri fort is a fortress that surrounds the main palace. This fort was popularly used during the Islamic Mataram Kingdom.
The dropout in this fort was said to have been caused by Panembahan Senopati's son; Raden Mas Rangga who was slammed by his father to break the wall because of his arrogance.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Salah satu situs yang tersembunyi di Kotagede, situs Benteng Cepuri. Menurut informasi dari BALAI PELESTARIAN CAGAR BUDAYA Yogyakarta, benteng ini dibangun pada tahun 1585 Masehi. Sekarang hanya tersisa sebagian kecil saja dari benteng ini yang tersisa. Semoga di masa depan, ada rencana untuk memugar kembali benteng ini agar semakin menarik wisatawan berkunjung kemari.
One of the hidden sites in Kotagede, the site of Benteng Cepuri. According to information from the Yogyakarta CULTURAL RESERVE RESERVOIR CENTER, the fort was built in 1585 AD. Now only a small portion of this fort is left. Hopefully in the future, there are plans to restore the fort to make it more attractive to tourists visiting here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Situs peninggalan Kerajaan Mataram Islam di Kotagede. Kotagede pernah menjadi pusat pemerintahan pada masa Panembahan Senapati hingga masa Sultan Agung, sehingga pada masa dahulunya Kotagede banyak memiliki fasilitas yang berkaitan dengan perannya sebagai sebuah ibukota kerajaan.
Selama hampir setengah abad, Kotagede telah memiliki tata ruang dan komponen-komponen kota seperti lazimnya kota-kota pusat pemerintahan Mataram Islam. Beberapa peninggalan fisik berupa masjid, sisa benteng baluwarti dan cepuri, serta jalan dan sejumlah toponim. Hal itu menunjukkan, bahwa pada masa lampau Kotagede merupakan sebuah kawasan yang cukup berkembang dan dinamis.
Dinding cepuri merupakan salah satu komponen dalam perkotaan tradisional yang berfungsi sebagai pembatas dunia luar (jaba beteng) antara komunitas rakyat dengan komunitas kerabat raja (jeron beteng). Selain itu, keberadaan cepuri dapat juga diinterpretasikan sebagai benteng pertahanan.
