★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We are still in transition, albeit a lengthy one for obvious reasons. This is a really enemy that is slowly but definitely surely getting into our nerves, I have to admit. I tried to take a walk around MAP premises at around noon and what struck me was the solemnity and singularity of the silence that slapped my sight like a sledgehammer! Who would have thought just 6 months ago that a place bustling with students, running up and down, some working hard but surely not a few harfilh working but as always following the bandwagon : just keep moving even the moving takes you no where. An apt phrase is only in bahasa Indonesia: Jalan di tempat. The gloom and doom aside, MAP seems to have coped well with the new situation. Staff are used to rolling shifts which require some members to report at 11 a.m and leave for home at 17 hours, while others brave the cold at 6:30 to arrive at the place of work as the click strikes 7 a.m. Conducting lectures via webex has become a norm even before the new normal, webinars that teach students and others with interest and inclination to conduct research using online techniques have become crowd pullers. Evaluating theses has never been that involving and participatory for evaluators and students alike, preparing evaluatees perhaps for a future that will be shaped by digitalization of both lifestyles, places of work, relationships and relations , interpersonal and international alike. A blessing in disguise . I can't be that audacious to put it in such blatant terms, however. All that I can say at the moment is that to he only change is in the air and with change comes challenges and opportunities, those wiling and ready to embrace and brave uncertainies that doubtless roughshod come come with that may experience tumultous times today, but definitely are destined to reap hefty rewards in two, five, 10 years to come. Serious commitment and dedication has never failed to deliver in the long term.
