Perahu yang menjadi ciri khas tersebut dibangun bersamaan dengan berdirinya masjid, yaitu pada 1963. Bentuk perahu merupakan ide KH Abdurrahman Massud yang terinspirasi dari kisah Nabi Nuh, yaitu cerita tentang selamatnya umat nabi saat banjir dengan menumpang perahu buatan Nabi Nuh itu.
Ada yang lebih menarik lagi dari masjid perahu ini, yaitu terpampangnya Alquran berukuran 2x1 meter di teras belakang masjid. Alquran raksasa yang ditulis oleh H Amir Hamzah pun dikelilingi oleh akik giok yang berwarna-warni.
Memasuki ruangan utama masjid di mana terdapat mimbar, Anda akan melihat tiang kayu besar sejumlah empat buah yang dihiasi oleh ukiran ayat-ayat Alquran. Salah satu dari tiang tersebut merupakan sumbangan dari Menteri Agama Indonesia yang pertama, yaitu Abdul Wahid Hasyim.

This characteristic boat was built at the same time as the mosque was built, namely in 1963. The shape of the boat was KH Abdurrahman Massud's idea, which was inspired by the story of the Prophet Noah, namely the story of the prophet's surviving the flood by riding the boat made by Prophet Noah.
There is something even more interesting about this boat mosque, namely the display of the Quran measuring 2x1 meters on the back porch of the mosque. The giant Koran written by H Amir Hamzah is surrounded by colorful jade agate.
Entering the main room of the mosque where there is a pulpit, you will see four large wooden poles decorated with carvings of the Qur'anic verses. One of the pillars was a contribution from the first Indonesian Minister of Religion, Abdul Wahid Hasyim.
