None of the causes mentioned in your second paragraph would appear like what had happened to my shawl. Only 2 strands of thread got severely pulled out while the rest stayed intact.
You could have admit your fault in a more professional way. After all, human who invented washing machines, irons, etc., do err sometimes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the place to go to do your own washing and drying costs rp 35000 for up to 6kg which is about $3.50 new zealand dollars. Or for a bit more money they will wash dry and iron it for you and they even pick and deliver so that's great service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Zap provides self service and full service laundry. For full service, you can use their pick up service too. Self service takes approximately 1.5 hours for washing and drying. 30minute for washing and after that you need to move the laundry from washing machine to dryer. Drying takes 50minutes. If you would like to wait for your laundry at zap, you can use their wifi or watch tv. There is also air conditioner. So it is quite comfy there. You can also borrow the iron if they are idle/not utilized by the staff for the full service or you can just simply fold your laundry as soon as the dryer off and while your laundry is still hot or before they get crumpled. If you choose full service, your laundry will be weighed, you need to pay for 5kg at the minimum so it will be more efficient if you give your laundry after they reach 5kg or more. You can collect stamps for eah transaction and redeem the collected stamps with laundry service.

After being a regular customer of Zap Laundry in MOI for almost 3 years, they decided to let me down. I had a shawl to wash among the full service I purchased. When I picked my laundry up, nothing was said to me. But when I opened the package at home, my shawl folded in between appeared to be ruined. 2 strands of thread were obviously pulled out. Since my shawl is just merely a piece of cloth made of cotton fabric, for sure something sharp must have stuck through. Carelessly pulled apart, strands of thread pulled apart from the fabric. It's not at all because the fabric is vulnerable to washing machines. Yet, this isn't bad enough.
I went back to Zap Laundry bringing my shawl. A lady staff wearing religious scarf attended me. To my great astonishment, she showed ZERO REGRET. As if I had come to throw my shawl over there without a dime in return. She took the shawl into her hands, and pulled the thread straight... like pulling a bad tooth out. Then she said, "we" can't take any responsibility, it's the machine's fault.
Now, the pattern is damaged worse and the fabric is wrinkled.
I know this is Indonesia, a country where a customer's right is not held up high. Still, I had been amazed by her reaction. Is this how you educate your staff??
My shawl could have gotten entangled with something sharp inside the washing machine. But it could have happened on the ironing board, on the hanging line, on the table, anywhere. If your washing machine is your alibi, that means you have the right to do whatever to your customer's (who have paid in advance) belongings and then say the washing machine did it. Having that said, you won't have the need to work careful, meaning: to be responsible.
To make matters worst, this lady staff said that my shawl has decayed (= lapuk), thus no responsibility. Hey!! Anyone with a moderate eyesight and some nerves on their fingers can see and feel that my shawl is far, far, from the state of decay. Moreover, damage caused by decay won't result in just 2 strands of thread pulled out of the fabric while the rest of fabric stays in tacked.
You have ruined my shawl, and my trust. You should educate your staff to wash out their attitude.
