★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sekolahku dulu :))) agama dan pendidikannya bagus. Peraturannya bagus. Sekolahnya kecil tapi mempermudah untuk mencari guru . Kamar mandinya baru saja direnovasi saat saya kelas 9, kamar mandinya jadi lebih nyaman digunakan ??? Ezphero
 My school used to be :))) religion and education are good. The rules are good. The school is small but makes it easy to find teachers. The bathroom was just renovated when I was in 9th grade, the bathroom is more comfortable to use ??? Ezphero

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ SMP Negeri 2 Yogyakarta berada di Jalan Panembahan Senopati 28-30 Yogyakarta, yang merupakan kawasan “NOL kilometer” atau pusat kota Yogyakarta, karena sangat berdekatan dengan Kraton, Istana Negara, Bank Indonesia, Kantor pos pusat , Taman Monumen serangan Umum 1 Maret dan berhadapan dengan Taman Pintar.
Bangunan sekolah yang didominasi gedung cagar budaya, dengan lahan 3.500 m2 tersebut sudah berdiri sejak 2 September 1942.
Pada awalnya, sekolah memiliki 22 rombongan belajar dengan jumlah 668 siswa, diasuh oleh 49 guru dan 12 tenaga TU (tata usaha). Setiap tanggal 12 September ditetapkan sebagai hari ulang tahun SMP Negeri 2 Yogyakarta dan dalam kurun waktu 70 tahun(1942-2016) telah terjadi 20 penggantian Kepala Sekolah.
Saat ini terdapat dua program layanan pendidikan yaitu reguler dengan masa belajar 3 tahun dan program kelas SKS (Sistem Kredit Semester) dengan masa belajar bisa ditempuh dalam 2 tahun.
Pada tahun 2011 sudah dilaksanakan program school sister dengan Seong Deok Middle School Guangju Korea Selatan dan sudah dua kali mengadakan pertukaran pelajar, sedangkan tahun 2013 serombongan siswa melawat ke Satri Si Suriyothai School, Bangkok Thailand untuk pentas seni.
SMP Negeri 2 juga bekerjasama dengan SMA Taruna Nusantara dalam bidang pendidikan karater, untuk jangka waktu 3 tahun sejak th. 2012. Penandatanganan MoU sudah dilaksanakan pada tanggal 2 Mei 2012.
Bila dilihat dari nilai Ujian Nasional yang lalu , maka di Kota Yogyakarta SMP N 2 Yogyakarta menempati urutan yang ke 5 setelah SMP Negeri 5,8,9 dan 1.
Dengan semboyan The School of Leadership, diharapkan SMP Negeri 2 Yogyakarta dapat mencetak generasi bangsa yang memiliki karakter kepemimpinan yang kuat untuk menjadi leader sejati.
Yogyakarta Public Middle School 2 is on Jalan Panembahan Senopati 28-30 Yogyakarta, which is a "ZERO kilometer" area or the center of Yogyakarta, because it is very close to the Palace, the State Palace, Bank Indonesia, the Central Post Office, the General Monument March 1 Park and facing with Taman Pintar.
The school building is dominated by a cultural heritage building, with 3,500 m2 of land that has been established since September 2, 1942.
At first, the school had 22 study groups with a total of 668 students, cared for by 49 teachers and 12 TU (administrative) staff. Every September 12 is designated as the birthday of Yogyakarta State Junior High School 2 and within 70 years (1942-2016) there have been 20 changes to the Principal.

Sekolah ini kabarnya adalah sekolah pertama di Jogja, bangunannya memang tinggi2 kayak bangunan jaman Belanda, dan dlu difungsikan sbg kantor pemerintahan.. (mohon koreksi kalo salah ya say...?)
Sekolah negeri ini ada di titik 0 km DIY, deket bgt sama Kantor Pos Pusat, Gedung BI, Taman Pintar, Malioboro, Keraton Jogja, Alun2 Utara..?
