★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pada tahun 1907, John McLean seorang manajer penjualan Standar Oil Co (California) di Seattle - kelak menjadi Chevron, mendapatkan ide cemerlang.
Ia memasang tangki berkapasitas 30 galon lalu menyambungkannya dengan selang untuk mengalirkan gasolin serta diujung selang ia memasang gelas ukur untuk menakar jumlah gasolin yang akan dijual kepada pembeli.
Dengan dilengkapi atap dari kanvas, jalur kendaraan serta meteran untuk mengetahui jumlah bahan bakar yang dijual maka jadilah sebuah SPBU pertama di dunia.
Meskipun pada awalnya banyak mendapat perlawanan dari pemerintah lokal karena takut akan bahaya kebakaran namun masyarakat begitu terbuai dengan pelayanan SPBU ini.
Tahun 1914, Standard mengoperasikan 34 SPBU dan mereka menyebutnya pada waktu itu dengan istilah berada di 6 kota di California.
Dengan ditambahkannya fasilitas air bersih dan udara bagi ban kendaraan secara gratis maka berkembang menjadi stasiun layanan bahan bakar.
Para pemilik kendaraan begitu tertarik mengunjungi SPBU jenis ini karena pemandangan dan model tamannya yang banyak diiikuti oleh seluruh SPBU milik Standard selama Perang Dunia I setelah Presiden Woodrow Wilson meminta warga Amerika untuk menjalankan gerakan taman rumah.
 In 1907, John McLean, a sales manager for Standard Oil Co. (California) in Seattle - later became Chevron, got a bright idea.
He installed a 30 gallon tank and then connected it to a hose to drain gasoline and at the end of the hose he installed a measuring cup to measure the amount of gasoline to be sold to buyers.
Equipped with a canvas roof, vehicle lanes and meters to find out the amount of fuel sold, this is the first gas station in the world.
Even though at first there was a lot of resistance from the local government for fear of the danger of fire, but the community was so swayed by the service of this gas station.
In 1914, the Standard operated 34 gas stations and they called it at that time in terms of being in 6 cities in California.
With the addition of clean water and air facilities for vehicle tires for free, it has developed into a fuel service station.
Vehicle owners were very interested in visiting this type of gas station because of the view and model of the park which was followed by many of the Standard's gas stations during World War I after President Woodrow Wilson asked Americans to run the home garden movement.
