There are at least 2 kind of traditional restaurants from Bataknese culture, they are Lapo (means warung makan) and BPK (Babi Panggang Karo, grilled pork ala Karo). RM Siangkaan is a BPK restaurant. They have saksang, babi panggang, soup, also noodles etc. My favorites are saksang and pork soup. The meat are tender and the soup is fresh with pepperish taste. Don't forget tge traditional soda drink called Cap Badak. The food also matches wih cold beer. It's really good for lunch. Try it

RM Siangkaan Cawang, Jakarta May 2018 Kidu-kidu - Bataknese country sausage and some panggang with rice for 54 K IDR. The kidu-kidu is a traditional country sausage laden with herbs and it usually utilizes eggs as a binding agent. The meat and fats used for a kidu-kidu, like most traditional Indonesian sausages, tend to be only roughly chopped - so they're great for those who like a bite in their sausages. However, since they tend to be made fresh - as most country sausages usually are - they might not taste as particularly meaty or refined compared to aged sausages. That being said, this particular rendition does a good job in making sure the spices are well balanced to complement the meat. Do note that this serving was somewhat coarse or dry if eaten alone - thus why it is imperative that one dips it thoroughly in the accompanying spice-laden, thickened blood sauce. The spices in the sauce really amps up the flavours to new heights - most notably because of the andaliman (Szechuan peppers, CMIIW). Definitely a great outing, so do make the trek or stop by if you are ever in the area. The ambience may be somewhat lacking, but the place is always packed and it is kind of rare to find anyone consistently preparing and selling kidu-kidu in Jakarta.

Ethical food. This restaurant serves karonese foods. Very tasty, recommended for the hungry people (non muslim), not for hangout place.
