Pada waktu itu yang menjadi Sultan di Jogjakarta adalah Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono VII ( Gusti Raden Mas (GRM) Murtejo putra dari Sri Sultan ke VI ).
This monument equipped with a clock was erected in 1916, to commemorate 100 years, the return of the Dutch East Indies to the Dutch after the end of the British colonial era under Thomas Stamford Raffles who ruled the Dutch East Indies in 1811 - 1816.
At that time, the Sultan of Jogjakarta was Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VII (Gusti Raden Mas (GRM) Murtejo son of Sri Sultan VI).
