Mi Ayam terkadang ditambahi dengan bakso, pangsit dan jamur. Mi berasal dari Tiongkok tetapi mi ayam yang serupa di Indonesia tidak ditemukan di Tiongkok.
Maka dari itu, setiap mie ayam di tiap2 daerah terkadang berbeda cita rasa nya. Untuk di Solo kebanyakan mie ayam lebih terasa manis dibandingkan mie ayam di daerah pekalongan yang lebih meresap bumbunya.
