Sekilas jika dilihat tembok Kecamatan Pengasih yang merupakan tembok pagar Kantor Kecamatan Pengasih tersebut tidak ada bedanya dengan tembok biasa dan banyak orang tidak mengetahui keberadaan sisi sejarahnya. Namun dibalik itu semua ternyata mempunyai nilai historis yang sangat penting atas keberadaan kabupaten Kulon progo. Keberadaan tembook tersebut berada di Jalan Purbowinoto No. 06 Pengasih, Kabupaten Kulon Progo.
Memang tak ada yang mengira kalau tembok tersebut bernilai historis yang tinggi, hal ini berkaitan erat dengan Kabupaten Kulon progo sebelum bergabung dengan kabupaten Adikarta. Dan setelah bergabung kedua kabupaten tersebut ibu kota kabupaten berpindah ke Wates, sedangkan tempat lama dipakai sebagai Kantor kecamatan Pengasih. Tembok yang masih tersisa saat ini yang menjadi bukti sejarah merupakan pembatas antara rumah rumah penduduk dengan kantor kecamatan pengasih. Sedangkan gedung yang dulunya merupakan perkantoran pemerintah hampir sudah tidak tersisa lagi.
Pada masa agresi militer Belanda kedua tahun 1948 bangunan tersebut hampir saja dibumi hanguskan namun lurah pertama desa tersebut berhasil mencegahnya dan masih berdiri utuh hingga sekarang. Ini merupakan satu-satunya peninggalan Belanda yang ada yang lain yang seumuran dengan bangunan disekitar tembok tersebut sudah rata dengan tanah. Ketinggian tembok mencapai 150 meter yang berada di sebelah barat Goa sedangkan di Sebelah timur setinggi 200 meter dengan ketebalan masing-masing 40 cm dengan bahan bangunan berupa batu bata serta batu kali utuh. Arsitektur atau bentuk gapura yang sebagai pintu masuk ke kantor kecamatan tersebut berbentuk semar tinandu.
Berulangkali tembok ini seiring perkembangan jaman mulai terusik dan teancam dirobohkan , salah satu saat pembangunan akses jalan menuju waduk sermo diperlebar yakni di jalur sentolo Sermo. Walau hanya berujud tembok karena mempunyai nilai sejarah yang tinggi maka keberadaan Tembok dan gapura tersebut merupakan benda cagar budaya yang harus dilestarikan dan dipertahankan keberadaanya. Dan hal inipun sering menjadi pertentangan namun pada akhirnya beberapa pihak setuju akan keberadaan tembok tersebut untuk tidak di hilangkan mengingat merupakan bagian dari sejarah Kabupaten Kulon progo itu sendiri.

Even though it only forms a wall because it has a high historical value, the existence of the Wall and the gate are objects of cultural heritage that must be preserved and preserved. And even this is often a conflict, but in the end some parties agreed to the existence of the wall not to be removed since it is part of the history of Kulon Progo Regency itself.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dulu pas kecil sering diajak simbah dan bapak nonton wayang disini, di kecamatan ini, rumah simbah berada di seberang sungai, belom ada jembatannya dulu, jadi harus nyebrang sungai jalan kaki, malem2 di gendong buat nonton wayang di kecamatan, kalo gendongnya capek disuruh jalan sambil nyari watu monyeng, batu berbentuk kristal keruh dg cahaya warna warni. Tapi jaman udah berubah akupun tak tau dulu aku nyari batu itu disebelah mana, sekarang pembangunan udah sangat maju pesat.
