★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you enjoy unique experiences this is worth spending a Saturday night. The outfits are extremely colourful and shiny. The main program is mainly traditional dance with some dialog in Javanese, but you don't need to understand the language it to enjoy it. The intermezzo is mainly dialog in Javanese and is not so interesting if you don't speak the language. But you are always free to walk outside order some food from the street stalls. They will deliver the food to your seat.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This building is quite old, but still the quality is good for theatrical performance in Indonesia. The toilets, I think it'd need a little bit renovation. The tickets are quite cheap.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent performance by the artists. Glamorous javanese dancer costume with traditional javanese music (gamelan) live performances. Choose the balcony floor for a better view (book seat A8-10). Hopefully there are English translations for foreign tourists.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ a place where you can enjoy human puppets (wayang orang) in Jakarta. Located in the center of Jakarta, near Pasar Senen bus station. The show usually hold on Saturday night from 08.00 pm till 11.00. The whole story tells in Javanese language specially "kromo inggil".
It's a great show, customs, dancers, story, music, and lighting. There're food delivery from "pedagang kaki lima" that sells the food in front of the bharata building.
just pay 40k IDR fir balcony seats, 50k for middle seats, and 60k for VIP seats.
Try to spend your saturday night here and enjoy the show

In 2018, Government of Jakarta is partnering with Wayang Orang Bharata to give 15 shows for free (i think they will not announce it. You will get surprise when you come)
Today is the 1st day of that free shows.
The building has been renovated and make it better.
The best thing you can still order food/drink from outside to eat while the shows begin.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is my first time watching "Wayang Orang" in Jakarta and frankly I'd really enjoy the show. The show delivers in Java Language, but the Indonesian translation also appears in running text LED. The theater is clean, air-conditioned, and comfortable.
Ticket price is IDR60k for VIP.
Recommended place for alternative entertainment in Jakarta.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Here we could see Wayang Orang performances, classical Javanese dance theater performances accompanied by gamelan music.
The show is only held every Saturday night, starting from 20.30pm to 24.00pm. The entrance ticket is divided into 3 classes, namely Balcony Rp 40.000, Class 1 Rp 50.000 and front row Rp 60.000 each person.
The theater also equipped with air conditioning.
When sitting in the front row we can also see gamelan music players, using metal instruments made by experts, not electronic musical instruments, which we rarely see today.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Place with history and culture education. I'm kinda like it, unfortunately i couldn't enjoy it because of the absence of translator. Yeah, the dialogue and narration was 100% Javanese, and since I'm not a Javanese I can't understand the story as well as it should be. I mean, it's a good place for learning or watching the "wayang" show in the middle of city like jakarta, but if you are looking for the entertaining show with story or plot you can understand and enjoy, you do need to understand Javanese or, you better bring Javanese friends.
