★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Seiring dengan kegiatan Administrasi Pendataan dan pembangunan yang terus meningkat, maka sebagai akibat daripada itu volume arsip berkembang dengan cepat sehingga dapat menimbulkan berbagai masalah, berkenan dengan Penyediaan anggaran, tenaga dan perlengkapan serta pengolahannya.
Dalam rangka meningkatkan daya guna dan tepat guna kearsipan serta menjamin keselamatan bahan pertanggungjawaban nasional/daerah, maka perlu dibentuk Lembaga Kearsipan Derah. Sesuai Peraturan Bupati Cirebon dan Peraturan Daerahnya didalam pasal 21 dan pasal 24 ayat 2 UU No. 43 tentang Tata Kearsipan bahwa Pemerintah Daerah Kabupaten / Kota wajib membentuk Lembaga Arsip Daerah Kabupaten /Kota. Dan Peraturan Kepala ANRI No.16 Tahun 2009 tentang Rincian Urusan Pemerintahan Bidang Kearsipan dilingkungan Pemerintah Daerah. Kantor Arsip Daerah Kabupaten Cirebon telah dibentuk berdasarkan Peraturan Daerah Kabupaten Cirebon No. 10 Tahun 1994 yang merupakan Pengembangan dari Subbag Umum Setwilda Cirebon. Kedudukannya merupakan unit pelaksana pemerintah daerah di bidang kearsipan yang tugas pokoknya membina kearsipan di semua unit kerja, dinas, badan, lembaga pemerintah serta mengumpulkan dan mengelola arsip.
Sesuai perkembangan otonomi daerah dengan terbitnya UU No. 22 Tahun 1999 tentang pemerintah daerah, untuk menyesuaikan dengan tugas dan kewenagan maka melalui PERDA No. 23 Tahun 2001, kantor kearsipan Daerah Kabupaten Cirebon ditingkatkan status serta merubah nomenklaturnya menjadi Kantor Arsip dajn Dokumen Kabupaten Cirebon.
Dengan semakin meningkatnya proses administrasi pemerintah yang mengakibatkan peningkatan volume, arsip serta meningkatnya peran kantor arsip dalam menata administrasi pemerintah, maka ditetapkan PERDA No. 56 Tahun 2004 tentang pembentukan Kantor Kearsipan dan Dokumen Kabupaten Cirebon dengan struktur organisasi diatur dalam PERDA No. 57 Tahun 2004, yang kemudian di ubah kembali melalui Perda no. 6 Th. 2008 tentang Pembentukan Organisasi Lembaga Teknis Daerah Kabupaten Cirebon

According to the Regents of Cirebon Regent and Regional Regulations in article 21 and article 24 paragraph 2 of Law no. 43 regarding the Archiving System that the Regency / City Regional Government is obliged to form a District / City Regional Archive Institution. And Regulation of the Head of ANRI No.16 of 2009 concerning Details of Government Affairs in the Field of Archives in the Local Government. Cirebon District Regional Archive Office has been formed based on Cirebon District Regulation No. 10 of 1994 which is the Development of the Cirebon Public Subdivision Subdivision. Its position is the implementing unit of the local government in the field of archives, whose main task is to foster archives in all work units, offices, agencies, government institutions as well as collecting and managing records.
In accordance with the development of regional autonomy with the issuance of Law No. 22 of 1999 concerning local government, to adjust to the duties and authorities through PERDA No. 23 of 2001, the Cirebon District Archives Office was upgraded in status and changed its nomenclature to the Cirebon District Archive and Document Office.
