★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Want to eat steak but you have very limited budget? Then Waroeng Steak could be your place to go. This chain of price-friendly restaurants has been around for 20 years AFAIK. They scattered around Yogyakarta, Central Java, West Java, Jabodetabek and almost every big cities across Indonesia.
Their signature dish is, well, as the name suggests - steak. But hold your breath, they serve the steak...

.... by dipping beef or chicken into batter and flour then deep frying it until it becomes golden brown. This deep fried "steak" is then being served on top of a hot plate made from black stone with fries, mixed vegetables, and gravy (see my picture)
Forget the image of rare, medium rare, well done steak served in fancy plates that you might seen on MasterChef series. I am sure Gordon Ramsay might get heart attack if he happens to see how they served the steak LOL.
But don't get me wrong, it still taste delicious as long as you get rid the MasterChef's steak style from your mind.
They do serve "actual" steak with Wagyu and New Zealand Beef but, again, AFAIK is only available in certain outlets, especially in big cities.
From the beginning, they targeted students and middle class families that could not afford to buy the real steak in fancy restaurants. Their places are mostly designed as semi open area with lots of ventilation and big electric fan to reduce operational costs that in turns contributing to their low price. They do have fancier places with air conditioned rooms and cafe-style appearances in big cities.
The place I visited has a spacious parking area that may accommodate several cars and motorbikes. It is adjacent to Futsal field on the back. it is clean, and tidy and it did not take to long before I got my order (but perhaps it was due I was the only customer at that time :D)
I got for myself a double deep fried steak with lemonade as the beverages. The steak was surprisingly quite tender and the lemonade was good enough. Damage cost? Less than 50K
I will definitely come back this place (or any of their outlets anywhere) in the future
