Great spot, best view you can have of both the merapi and merbabu volcano. You can arrange trekking for those mountains, ask at the homestay. The people running it are really helpful and nice! Comfortable beds, good shower with warm water and a western style toilet. Definitely recommend this homestay for everyone visiting the merapi area, stay in Selo and have the best spot.

I had a great stay at Twin Mountains Homestay with Adi. Adi did an excellent job! He always checked to make sure I didn’t need anything. One of the best things he did for me: he arranged for a motorbike to rent at a very reasonable price. That allowed me to explore the area and meet more happy locals! Speaking of locals, if you have time, I’d recommend walking around the neighborhood. The local people are absolutely amazing! Theyβ€˜re so happy to see you. They always have smiles on their faces. The shower is very hot and has good water pressure. Laundry service is available for a very reasonable price (5,000 Rupiah/kilo). The Homestay provides clean water (hot and room temperature) from a water jug. I was able to refill my water bottle many times. A nice touch! Please note, there’s no WiFi. I’d recommend Telkomsel for mobile Internet. I had coverage everywhere. The only time I lost service was half-way up Mount Merapi. One last piece of advice: it’s hot enough during the day to wear shorts and a TShirt, but it gets cold at night. I’d recommend bringing some warm clothes. If you’re going to hike Merapi at night, it’ll be extra cold. Bring gloves, long pants, and a jacket. I’d highly recommend Twin Mountains Homestay to anybody who wants to stay at a great place for a great price, and meet some incredibly helpful hosts, too!

I won't beat around the bush here, we didn't like our room at all. Sure, we came during wet season, but I can't help thinking that the place looks very different from the pictures/videos posted/sent by the owner. Our room was dirty, our blanket mouldy, this doesn't help resting before a hard trek... Honestly it is not that complicated to sweep & clean the floor, and clean the toilets... We had booked on WhatsApp days before so they knew we were coming... They get at least 3* because they took care of transportation to/from there and found us a good guide. The owner was very friendly. Room: 200.000 IDR/night Pick-up from Borobudur: 250.000 IDR Drop-off in Yogyakarta: 350.000 IDR Guide: 450.000 IDR

A very nice place to stay for weekend getaways. It's located between two stunning volcanoes just 2 hours from Yogyakarta. There are plenty of activities to do around the place. Hiking and climbing the two mountains is one. But I'd only write from my personal, rather-lazy experience that don't involve tears from climbing the giants: 1. Enjoying the view of 2 amazing volcanoes from the homestay's balcony. Breathtaking when it's clear, mysterious when it's cloudy. Don't miss the sunrise around 5.00. 2. Less than 5 minutes walking through a small path beside the homestay for better view. 3. 10-20 minutes walking, or even more if you like to take bazillion of pics to feed your hungry soul, to a view post called Alam Sutra. You can stop by Petilasan Kebo Kanigoro on the way to Alam Sutra. 4. Climb Gancik Hilltop for another stunning view. I know I know it's still to see the two mountains but you won't regret viewing them from every angle possible. Ask the hosts on how to get there. Once in Gancik's parking lot (villagers yard that is), you can opt to walk, or if you don't feel like climbing, ojek is available from the parking area to the top of the hill. They offered me a ride for IDR 10.000, it might be more on high season. 5. Visiting a farm. Activities are varies, from just observing the farmers working to harvesting fresh veggies or just buying. They don't usually have a rate on how much to do what. Generosity is a virtue though. ? 6. As to what to eat, Selo is a small village. Exploring the market aka downtown would only take a minute. There are small food places around the market. I've tried several "Warung Nasi" or "Warung Nasi Rames", like 4 or 5, and they all serve tasty food for very affordable price. If you need a guide to take you around, or shuttle service, just ask the hosts, they're very helpful and might take you around themselves if/when available.
