★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Let's start with the good. They have a very impressive reel and body of work. But it comes at a price. A price that keeps changing. We were connected to them to do some color work after another colorist screwed us over. With a hard deadline and set budget (we were already above budget from the aforementioned screwing), we were 100% upfront about our delivery date, needs, and requirements. Our conversations with the Colorist were professional and cordially.
We went back and forth with the Producer, Ica, on the price a few times before finally settling on one. Only to have her send yet another invoice a few hours before our color session was supposed to start DOUBLING what we had already agreed on and back to what we had originally started back at the negotiating table at a few days prior. Talk about bait and switch. Ica then claimed that our scope of work had changed (resulting in the higher price) when we were 100% transparent about our needs and deadline in the first place. She keeps claiming we changed our scope but we have texts showing the opposite. We even did a call together the day before we were supposed to start where we discussed all the requirements and they never brought up the new price.
I understand that these things cost money and good talent + equipment is hard to find. That's fair. BUT to agree on one price and then DOUBLE IT the day before we're supposed to start (knowing full well that our backs were up against the wall) is downright unethical, unbecoming, and unprofessional. We pulled the project rather than pay the ransom money.
Credit where credits due: they do good work. I'm not disputing that. But unless you're willing to be a hostage to their last minute price hikes, bad communication from their producers, and constantly fluctuating fee structure, you're better of hiring another company.
