Smile mulai berdiri dan beroperasi sejak bulan September 1995. Pada pendirian awal, manajemen terbagi menjadi dua departemen independen yaitu Komputer (SMILE Informatika) dengan lokasi kantor di jl. Agus Salim No 74 A dan Bahasa Inggris (saint Marry International Language Education) di Jl. Gayam No. 12. Seiring dengan tuntutan kreatif dalam pengembangan dan berjalanya waktu, dua departemen tersebut disatukan dalam manajemen group dibawah naungan YAYASAN SMILE GROUP pada tanggal 2 Agustus 1996. Dengan manajemen dan sistem baru tersebut, proses pengambilan keputusan menjadi lebih mudah dan kinerja dari setiap personel di dala group menjadi lebih maksimal karena kemudahan dalam akses informasi dna fasilitas yang berakibat pada percepatan riset dan pengembangan.
Smile Group is an educational institution in Jogjakarta, founded by a number of creative young professionals with diverse backgrounds and education, but has the same vision of organizing an education oriented to the application of the world of work. Smile began to stand up and operate since September 1995. At its initial establishment, management was divided into two independent departments namely Computers (SMILE Informatika) with office locations on Jl. Agus Salim No. 74 A and English (Saint Marry International Language Education) on Jl. Gayam No. 12. Along with the creative demands in the development and timeliness, the two departments were united in a group management under the auspices of YAYASAN SMILE GROUP on August 2, 1996. With the management and the new system, the decision-making process became easier and the performance of each personnel in the groups become more leverage because of the ease of access to information and facilities that result in accelerated research and development.
