★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Santa Ursula BSD is the branch of a well known and well regarded Catholic School in Central Jakarta. The original school is girls-only, and is located next to Jakarta's Cathedral. The BSD campus was opened in the 90s and has years ranging from Kindergarten to Senior High School. The school is famous for its traditional Catholic teaching and is still one of the preferred institutions in Jakarta and surrounding cities. The campus is green, wide, and lovely, and the students are generally diligent and well-mannered.

Personally, I have a relatively good experience - but I was the minority in a family of three Sanurians (since pre-school).
The teachers are great, in particular the primary school teachers, social studies and language teachers in SMA. Our campus is beautiful, spacious, clean (trash cans are available every 2-5 meters), and well-manicured (props to the amazing staff!!!). I have also made a few lifelong friends. I love the structures and lack of distraction, but the uniformity might be stifling for students who value exploration and creativity.
It wasn't the kind of school to empathetically nurture unique personalities, it believes in a certain "meritocratic" mold that results in an individualistic culture blind to its own privilege (unless you can walk/bike to school, have enough money for a chauffeur or a trusty carpool, this might not be the school for you).
Their "Live In" program (Year 12) was clumsily integrated, as the kampungs are strictly filtered and most of the students have internalized saviorism instead of allyship at this point of their education, completely failing to emphatize with the structural injustice faced in the rest of the country.
Creativity is underappreciated and is sometimes seen as "dissent". An authority has even gone her way to berate students for making art she thinks is "not up to standards" (read: not her taste).
It's not uncommon to see students thrive once they switch schools, because this one is no place for students with learning disabilities. It's particularly harsh for students who identify as queer, in the autism spectrum, deal with ADHD or depression.
Honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if this review somehow made waves in the faculty - a good friend of mine was threatened with suspension/expulsion because she wrote a relatively anonymous blog about her experience without any mentions to the school and someone ratted her out. *That's* the extent of our culture.
I graduated years ago, but I'm still unlearning the instilled elitism and individualism from those 15 years of education. But hey, at least we all know how to compost and recycle.
