★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great service and good managements. Clean and comfortable. Many variations of menu. Come early before lunch time and you can choice what do you like. Still consistent from time to time with the quality of the foods. Must try for Indonesian food lovers especially for Padang food lovers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Restoran Sederhana is a small Padang style restaurant in the outskirts of Jakarta. The food is delicious, plentiful and well priced. Like most Padang style restaurants, all the available dishes are presented to you on the table, the trick being you pay for whatever you decide to eat. Once the smells hit you, it's very easy to have a bite of everything, but I must remind anyone eating here to exercise self discipline. I myself had the rendang, the chicken curry, the whitebait, the croquettes (not sure of the Indonesian name) and the beef and chilli pepper.
Pros:
- Flavours of the rendang were very intense, with each mastication a new flavour hit my pallette. It was spicy but not spicy to the point where all other flavours were undetectable.
- The chicken curry was aromatic and bursting with flavour.
- Atmosphere was welcoming and inviting. I did not test the staff's English ability, however I was greeted with smiles and excellent customer service.
- If you were in a hurry and in the area, the restaurant actually had an outside facing stall where customers can grab some delicious Padang food to go.
Cons:
- The presentation was far from Michelin star style. Sure, you don't expect this from Padang food, but a little care and attention goes a long way.
- The meat was sometimes a little dry, I feel that this perhaps my own misunderstanding of the actual recipes though.
- Very off the beaten track for your average tourist, I was in the area visiting friends when I went there.
- I really am nit picking, the restaurant was great all round.
Conclusion:
I highly recommend this place if you want some genuine Indonesian food that has not been watered down for fear of offending non Indonesian guests' taste buds. Even though the presentation was less than perfect the flavours will linger in your mouth for hours and hours. Be sure to give this place a visit!
