★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good for: close to malioboro, eye-pleasing home stay, and that's it.
My only complaint would be the extremely cheap everything feels. I understand how industrial style look is cheap. Yet few hotel with the same style that I've been visiting manage to make cheap feels.. cheap. At least make it cheaply classy or something.
For example, the sound isolation is so terrible we could hear people frying and chatting from the restaurant from our room, on the second floor.
The floor plaster looks and feels like its lazily done. The bathroom door is hollow and doesn't feel sturdy. Oh and the blinds. The blinds dont go full dark and when the night comes, makes silhouette of you from the outside! And since you have one big glass door plus two big tall glass window as your room door, this doesn't work. This feels like staying at aquarium.
I could go on and on but hey, try for yourself folks

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hey, did you know that ‘pawon’ is a Javanese word which means ‘kitchen’? This place was a traditional chocolate kitchen and then it changed to a guesthouse. A blogger who stayed here wrote that every guest would get a cup of chocolate as a welcome drink. I thought I would get one too, but I didn’t?
Anyway, I chose this guesthouse because of its strategic location. I only took 5 minutes walking from Tugu train station and less than 2 minutes walking to the famous Jalan Malioboro. I think it’s going to be quite hard for you to find the guesthouse if it’s your first time to stay there because it’s located in a very small alley and it’s not accessible with cars, but once you’ve found it, you will have no problems finding it again. And I think it won’t be easy for you if you bring pretty big luggage because of the rough surface.
The guesthouse is nicely furnished and decorated. I like the interior design and how they put some murals on the wall. There are hanging potted-plants and lots of other plants can make you feel more relax. The room is not so big, but it’s clean and comfortable. Oh, the room smells very nice too. I stayed for 5 days and it was great. Breakfast is very good, loving the Nasi Goreng so much! Can’t get it enough. Staff are nice, friendly and helpful. They'd gladly explain every time I asked for direction to go somewhere.
I really enjoyed my staying at Pawon Cokelat. I miss the tasty nasi goreng already. Next time I visit Jogja, I would absolutely stay there again. Low cost guesthouse, great location, friendly helpful staff, tasty breakfast, comfortable room, quiet place… I love this place more than words can say. Can’t wait to come back!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ simple yet unique industrial hotel' design. located in a strategic and accessible area (by walking). it takes 5 minutes from Malioboro street. comfy and cozy hotel. the atmosphere here is so good. the small details like lamp, plant, chair, and staircase are really nice. the simpleness looks good in everything. the exposed materials look good with all the greeneries. great choice of design and the rest.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Located in narrow street so it's more peaceful. Friendly staff, a cute place the room is simple but enough for sleep. Air conditioner and the water heater work well but the tv isn't working didn't ask the staff about the tv bcs we only stay for a night here. But it's a good place for stay overall.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bathroom wasn't clean enough. Must improve it! I took deluxe room with single bed and quite small space left. It hard open my luggage although only medium size. Room facilities really minimum. To reach this hotel quite easy because really near tugu station and just walk from the main street. But to get to this hotel have to pass by very small alley, so u have to walk from main street. Car couldnt fit, even motorcycle didnt allow to pass by for visitor. For backpacker kind of trip, worth it. Because it's location in mailoboro area. The good thing is u could find some good spot to take a photo. ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (+) The room use a unfinished design. It’s unique, also the interior. This is my second time go here since the first one was in 2019.
(+) The price already include breakfast (fried rice / fried noodle + tea/coffee)
(+) They have hot water !!!
(-) They only provide towel in the room and the soap. So for the toothbrush and toothpaste we need to bring it by own self.
(-) It’s a bit hard to get to the location. Because it’s located in the small passageway. Maybe the target is backpacker so it’s GOOD. the price is cheap enough (especially from OTA)
