One of the favorite destinations in East Magelang. The Merapi Valley Tradition Market is located on Mount Gono β€” a bamboo forest hill in Banyubiru Village. Open every Sunday from 05:30 - 12:00, this market actually indicates the existence of Javanese culture in the midst of the times. The committee and pelapak wear traditional Central Javanese clothes ranging from batik jarik (a piece of cloth for a sash and skirt), to blangkon or caping. The utensils, from plates to spoons, use traditional Javanese style - mostly made of bamboo and clay on a banana leaf. Very interesting, authentic and environmentally friendly. The food and drinks that are sold are mostly Javanese specialties, from ice tape, getuk, clorot, to soto shellfish. Unfortunately to be able to enjoy the snacks here, you have to come very early in the morning. This is due to the limited portion of culinary that are sold by pelapak very limited. In addition, the transaction currency here using 'Dhoho' coins after purchase cannot be exchanged. Even though it is valid for life, tourists outside Magelang will certainly suffer material losses if Dhoho does not run out, especially if it is due to a limited portion of snacks.

Wew, the first time to come here, the market is far up the hill, 10 to 15 minutes walk from the parking lot through Kebon Bambu. If it's still morning, for example at 6 here, cars and motorbikes can still go up and park on the hill, if it's already at 7, you can't have to park below. Oh yeah, this market isn't just Sunday. First up in the market area was immediately greeted by traditional live music where together with mini rickshaw rentals. Oh yes, here is also the location for buying Dhono money packages, special currencies here to make it easier to shop. The money is from wood with the price of 1 dhononya equal to 2000 rupiah. Later you will also be provided with a basket of baskets to make it easier to bring money and gifts. Oh yes, but please remember the money if you can't finish it can not be exchanged into rupiah anymore, just take it home when you use it. When entering the market, waw rame, there are many food choices, ranging from pecel rice, megono rice, and other rice menus with various Javanese side dish variants. The price varies, ranging from 3 to 5 dhono. There is also chicken soup, chicken soup, meatballs, kupat tofu which is average for 3 dhono if without toppings, all served in a unique cute coconut shell. If you don't want to eat heavy, here are also many snacks ranging from surabi, sempol, satay satay, and a variety of Javanese sweet snacks. To drink it, here are coffee shops, ice dawet, herbs, and other drinks whose name I do not know. Here, beautiful, cool, lots of seating, nice view because it directly views the Merapi and Merbabu hillsides. Nice is the place, unfortunately the trash is not too much, not even there all the way from the market area to the parking lot. Maybe for the youth the organizer can add a trash can as input from me. Oh yes, the concept of a traditional market on a hill like this is not only here, there are also in Kaliangkrik, and so on that I don't know yet hehe.

Merapi lemabah market, is in the Banyubiru Shaman area. If from the highway a little goes in, on the highway there is also a signpost so it's easy to find. The place is on the hill so it's still beautiful. The market is unique, it is only open on Sundays from 6-12. If you come here, it's good in the morning, all the walks, if it's still in the morning, the snacks are still complete, if it's hot and supek in the afternoon, now the uniqueness of this market is the sale and purchase system doesn't use the rupiah currency, later When we first wanted to enter the market, we could exchange our rupiah for money, 1 dono = Rp. 3000. The place of exchange is near the entrance to the market. The place for parking is below, if you want to park above you usually have to come this morning. So the food that is sold is really traditional Javanese food like klepon, jenang, cethil, tiwul, dawet, and many more, there are also soup balls we can eat for breakfast. Those who sell here also make traditional Javanese clothes, kebaya for women and men who wear striped shirts plus a blankon. Several times here I have also held festivals that are no less exciting.

It's like you travel through time and back to the 18th century when there's no plastic polluting this earth. In this traditional market, they use banana leaves, coconut shell and other organic stuff to wrap your food. And the food itself also unique, coz you wouldn't find it easily in the regular traditional market nowadays. Only open every Sunday tho.. so be sure to check the day!
