Karena masjid adalah Baitullah (rumah Allah), maka orang yang memasukinya disunahkan mengerjakan salat Tahiyyatul Masjid (menghormati masjid dua rakaat). Nabi Muhammad SAW bersabda, ''Jika salah seorang kamu memasuki masjid, jangan dulu duduk sebelum mengerjakan salat dua rakaat.'' (HR Abu Dawud).
Kata masjid merupakan bentuk mufrad (tunggal). Sedangkan jama' (banyak) masaajid banyak terdapat dalam Alquran, antara lain dalam ayat berikut ini: ''Hai Anak Adam pakailah pakaianmu yang indah di setiap (memasuki) masjid...'' (QS Al-A'raaf [7]: 31).
Al - Hidayah Mosque
