★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Swinging by here to visit this place on a recommendation, I am pleasantly surprised by the layout and location. Here are a few observations and honest review.
Beverage quality (4/5):
I had a sip of Americano and a cup of Su-Ma-Ja. The Americano is standard fare with the roasting on the slightly darker side. For those who prefer a deeper and more bitter taste, this one is for you. For me it was okay. Nothing to shout about. The Su Ma Ja is made of milk ginger and honey. I always liked ginger so it agrees with me. However I found the overall taste to be too sweet. Perhaps the presence of condensed milk being the key factor. It was overwhelming although I could still detect the taste of honey. For those with a sweet tooth, definitely something you want to try. But for me, probably my first and last glass.
Decor and Interior (5/5):
Definitely a 5 star. The person who runs this place has made perfect use of the location and incorporated existing structure and created a minimalistic feel that is functional yet aesthetically pleasing. The entrance was nicely designed leaving no doubt to the artist’s liking for murals. With skandinavian as a canvas, they ask added a dash of nature with plants and wooden/eaten furnitures. Most importantly, the space is well used and there is space for people to hang out, chill and even settle into work. Lighting is adequate especially with the use of high void space that adds to a feeling of space and airiness.
Location (4/5):
Location is quite good as it is located just by the road. It is easy to find as well. However, one problem could be potential parking space.
Ambience (5/5):
Another draw. The place is quiet and nice. Even with a sizeable number of visitors, I never felt cramped and seatings are nicely spaced. Due to the design layout, the place is very well ventilated. Having arrived in the late afternoon, I did not feel the heat normally associated with sunny Indonesia. In fact, with clever use of natural shade, louvre windows and building, the place was cooling even without the use of air conditioner. The spacious land lends to a very open feel and it’s something not normally found in Jakarta. While I can’t speak for the morning to afternoon climate, late afternoon to evening is definitely a good time to come.
Summary:
While I would not come out of my way here just for the coffee, if you are looking for a nice place to read a book, chill out, hang out with friends or just some me-time, this place is a highly recommended.
