★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hop off from the Transjakarta bus of Tj. Priok - Penjaringan or Senen- Pluit route at the Kali Besar Barat shuttle & you're there.
It's a part of the newly rejuvenated area extended from the Old City. Though named after the big canal passing thru, don't expect any water related activity. The canal is still dirty & thus inaccessible though its odor is now somehow bearable. It's basically a plaza in the shape of a bridge.
Come on weekdays to avoid large crowd & truly enjoy the beauty of its design and how it correlates with the buildings around it.
Don't be discouraged by the street vendors & performers. Just firmly but politely refuse.
On weekends, however, it becomes a place for communities to gather or simply a dating site. Motorcycles park around it causing traffic jam. Some street vendors sell everything from souvenirs to daily needs.
And though it's not allowed, some street hawkers will (smartly?) go around & offer stuff, mainly instant drinks & snacks, without the items being around. Then they'll return with drinks ordered at hand. So technically they don't sell them in there.
A lot of street performers will also take turns, just be stern.
All in all, a good place. So many people want to enjoy & benefit off of it.
