In 1825-1830, Goa Selarong was a hideout place of Pangeran Diponegoro who is one of Indonesian’s National Heroes. He moved here after his royal residence was burnt by the colonial government. Together with other princes of Yogyakarta Palace, here he designed a war strategy to beat the colonial troops who wanted to invade Yogyakarta. Today the legacy of Pangeran Diponegoro remains silent. The local government built and renovated the area to be one of tourist destination spots in Bantul Regency. Even though, this tourism asset is not well maintained. It needs a special improvement to attract more people to come. As it is a good source of Indonesian history that people should know about. The children park looks old and doesn’t appeal. No information board that will give you any description on why this place is important for Indonesian history. There is also a ruined stairs on the right side of the cave. Be careful on your steps. The good thing that people love to visit is the small waterfall near to the second cave. It has a quite long stream on rainy season, but nothing on the dry season. Also that there you can find local fruits like Jambu Kluthuk and Sawo from local vendors. Ticket here is cheap. 3K for the entrance and 3K for motorcycle parking fee. Make sure you have your meals before climbing the stairs up here. It is quite challenging, like dozens of stairs to reach the cave. But it pays off, the breeze is chilling and the ambience is very calm and quiet. Good for meditation.

Historical cave which has used by Pangeran Diponegoro and his family for hiding during the war in Yogyakarta. This place consist of two main cave, for Diponegoro's family hiding and the other troops for gerilya's tactic. The caves are under a big tree with sturdy root. On the side of tree there two waterfalls and river. This place is a good for family picnic because of its nature with historical value inside.

A cheap but historila place in Bantul. Usually uses as the place for work out or senam. On Saturday and Sunday, a lot of people will come here to enjoy their holiday. Some seller open their stall start in the morning. No need to bargain, sometimes you will get a discount supriselly. The parking space was available. Easy to find this place to. No guide here, but the local person sometimes help you to get the information about this place.

A historical site on the Selarong Hills in Guwosari, Pajangan District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. It used to be a command base for the epic fight in the so-called Java War led by Prince Diponegoro against the Dutch (1825-1830). On a high cliff there are two cool separate caves as emergency rooms for gents and ladies, which can be reached by walking some from the parking lot up through concrete wide steps. Next to the gents cave there is a cool waterfall which flows in the rainy season, and on a lower height there is a children playground. On my last visit several years ago, the East side next to the ladies cave was damaged due a light landslide. A clean mosque not far from the entrance gate.
