Forum ini didirikan sebagai usaha pengembangan pengetahuan media dan seni para anggotanya, dengan cara; produksi, pendokumentasian, riset dan distribusi terbuka. Pengembangan pengetahuan ini menjadi pijakan bagi komunitas untuk membicarakan persoalan sosial masyarakat melalui seni dan media. Setelah duabelas tahun berdiri, forum ini telah berkembang dalam berbagai program atas dukungan kerjasama dengan berbagai lembaga dan komunitas di Indonesia dan internasional.
Forum Lenteng is an egalitarian non-profit organization as a means of developing social and cultural studies established by communication students, art workers, researchers and cultural observers in 2003. The forum was established as an effort to develop media and art knowledge of its members, by means of; open production, documentation, research and distribution. The development of this knowledge has become a platform for the community to discuss social issues of the community through art and media. After twelve years, this forum has developed in various programs for collaborative support with various institutions and communities in Indonesia and internationally.
