★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dari 19 bangunan pabrik gula yang pernah berdiri di Yogyakarta, Pabrik Gula (PG) Kedaton Pleret merupakan salah satunya, yang dibangun pada tahun 1862. PG Kedaton Pleret dinamakan demikian karena pabrik gula ini menempati area yang diduga menjadi kedaton atau area inti dari bekas Keraton Mataram Pleret.
Pada tahun 1872 sistem jaringan transportasi kereta api masuk wilayah Kasultanan Yogyakarta. Oleh karena itu tidak lama kemudian perusahan pabrik gula yang tersebar di Yogyakarta juga menggunakan jasa kereta api ini.
Pada tahun 1925 Pabrik Gula Kedaton Pleret menjadi milik NV Cultuur Maatschappij der Vorstenlanden. Pabrik Gula Kedaton Pleret merupakan salah satu pabrik gula yang bangunannya dirombak oleh Biro Teknik E Rombout.
Pada masa krisis ekonomi global tahun 1930-an Pabrik Gula Kedaton Pleret masih aktif beroperasi sekalipun jumlah pegawainya dikurangi. Akhirnya pada tahun 1937 Pabrik Gula Kedaton Pleret tutup. Pada masa Agresi Belanda II (1948) Pabrik Gula Kedaton Pleret dihancurkan oleh para pejuang dan warga agar tidak digunakan sebagai markas (pos) militer Belanda.
Secara administratif PG Kedaton Pleret ini terletak di Dusun Kedaton, Desa Pleret, Kecamatan Pleret, Kabupaten Bantul, DIY. Namun jika dilihat areanya dengan kondisi sekarang, ternyata bekas area PG Kedaton Pleret juga meliputi Dusun Kauman, Desa Pleret, Kecamatan Pleret, Kabupaten Bantul, DIY.
Area bekas pabrik gula ini sekarang telah menjadi tempat berdirinya Kantor Kecamatan Pleret, SD Kauman, Sekolah Taman Kanak-Kanak, kuburan umum, Pasar Pleret, lapangan, puskesmas, dan Perumahan Kauman Baru. Sedangkan bekas lokasi PG Kedaton Pleret sekarang telah menjadi lapangan dan perumahan warga. Hal yang masih bisa dilihat dari sisa atau bagian dari PG Kedaton Pleret mungkin tinggal struktur saluran irigasi/drainase yang membentang barat-timur di sisi selatan lapangan.

During the Dutch Aggression II (1948) the Kedaton Pleret Sugar Factory was destroyed by fighters and residents so as not to be used as the Dutch military (post) headquarters.
Administratively, the PG Kedaton Pleret is located in Kedaton Hamlet, Pleret Village, Pleret District, Bantul Regency, DIY. But if you look at the area with the current conditions, it turns out that the former PG Kedaton Pleret area also includes the Kauman Hamlet, Pleret Village, Pleret District, Bantul Regency, DIY.
The former sugar factory area has now become the site of the establishment of the Pleret District Office, Kauman Elementary School, Kindergarten School, public graveyard, Pleret Market, field, health center, and the New Kauman Housing. While the former location of the Kedaton Pleret PG has now become a field and residential housing. Things that can still be seen from the rest or parts of the PG Kedaton Pleret may be an irrigation channel / drainage structure that runs east-west on the south side of the field.
