★ ★ ★ ★ ★ They tried to make up ridiculous excuses to give a lower rate by saying there's a small stamp mark or a barely visible crease in the dollar. Even when in great shape.
I used money changers in Jakarta, Bali, and through out Asia in 2018 with them immediately accepting the money. Apparently this greedy trend started in recent months as a way to screw people over. Possible targeting only foreigners, because I had seen an older local woman have her USD processed immediately like they used to do for us.
As a result I've dramatically cut back spending to spend my money in other Asian countries instead, now considering scraping my future travel plans in the country, and telling my friends that were unsure to visit Indonesia to avoid coming while this absurd practice is going on. The economy will and ought to suffer as a result of this.
I recommend TELL THEM THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, shop around money changers during daytime weekdays when competition is at its peak, leave negative reviews online.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good exchange rate. The place is a little bit cramped so it can only accommodate 4-5 people inside. The teller requires everyone to show their ID before exchanging money. Located at the basement of Grand Indonesia, it's located nearby Ranch Market, UNIQLO, and Art & Sciences. There's a screen that shows the exchange rate. They are ready to exchange any large currencies as well as some regional currencies like PHP or TWD.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bad service. They only care about perfect bills. One small crease or mark on the bill, they lower rates and don’t want to negotiate at all which is unheard of in other western countries. Southeast asia money changers are notorious for scamming western foreigners. Just walk away and go to the ATM.
