★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Buk Renteng or Van Der Wijck Canal is one of the irrigation channels inherited from the Dutch which was built in 1909 and completed in 1932. The construction of the Van Der Wijck Canal was originally functioned as an irrigation channel for sugar cane plantations which are widely available in the Minggir, Moyudan to Sedayu areas. At that time in Yogyakarta there was an increase in the sugar industry.
The Van Der Wijck Canal does not only function as an irrigation channel for the sugarcane plantations but as a reference for the use of earth's gravity technology in designing the construction of the irrigation building. The Van Der Wijck Canal crosses Tempel, Minggir, Goden, Moyudan and Sedayu Districts. The irrigation channel is 45 km long.
