Daerah tersebut berasal dari nama Ki Tumenggung Bocor, anak keturunan dari Pangeran Thole yang berasal dari wilayah Kesultanan Demak karena intrik politik terpaksa menyingkir jauh ke Selatan Pulau Jawa.
Sedangkan Ki Tumenggung Bocor merupakan penguasa lokal yang ada di wilayah tersebut sejak zaman pemerintahan Sultan Amangkurat I di Kerajaan Mataram.
