★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I'm a fan of Nex Carlos and watch his food review all the time so I had a high expectation of this place. I am writing this review in hope that this will catch his attention and give this place a chance to improve. So let's start with the items I ordered : Ayam kremes 2, Ayam bakar 1, tempe 1, tahu 1, sayur asem 1. They ran out of nasi uduk so I did not get to try that.
Ayam goreng kremes : It was bland...like really bland. During his review, Nex often emphasis how a good fried chicken should be "meresap rasanya sampai ke dalam". These chicken did not have any flavour at all, not even on the skin.
Ayam bakar : It had the taste of kecap on the outside but again, the meat was bland = plain = no flavour.
Tempe & tahu : If I may quote Nex, they were SNI, but the bland version of them.
Sayur asem : the only good thing I had. It was clear and had a good balance of sweet, sour and spicy. A pretty good effort.
Finally the sambal : With the chicken so bland, I had hoped that the sambal could come to the rescue. Disappointingly it did not. It was not fragrant, not flavourful, nor spicy.
Needless to say, it was such a disappointing dinner. More so because I was on a diet and limit myself to one good meal per day. Ayam Gedebuk was my choice of good meal for that day and it actually turned to be my worst meal of the day.
I am at loss for words because a good friend of mine had ayam gedebuk a few weeks earlier and she gave a rave review. So there must be a problem regarding consistency here..... I ordered the food on June 6, 2021 for dinner around 7-8pm. Maybe it could help to trace the culprit for severely under seasoning all the food that go out for serving.
I hope this catches Nex attention so that improvement can be made. I do hope this place thrives because Nex seems to be such a good and genuine person.
Hopefully I get to try Ayam Gedebuk at its best version in the near future and write a much better review about its food.
